In 2022, she starred in a black comedy crime film “Zola”. This marked her amazing breakthrough that also earned her an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead actress. The film is based on a wild story about a Florida road trip with two women gone wrong. Taylour plays Zola, a waitress convinced by a flamboyant stripper Stefani to take a road trip with her to Tampa, Florida. The movie was apparently based on a real life person named Zola, who went viral with a 148-tweet thread on Twitter that recounted a crazy tale of such a trip.
2020 proved to be a major year for her as she also starred in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”. The critically acclaimed film, which was Chadwick Bosman’s last week’s last film role, also earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. She played the character Dussie Mae, who was Ma Rainey’s, played by Viola Davis, love interest. Critically acclaimed film earned Oscar nominations for both stars Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Bossman. It was a turning point for Taylour as it helped spear rocket her transition from the VH1 dance-centric series “Hit the Floor”.
In the latest and long-awaited installment of Beverly Hills Cop, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”, she starred alongside Eddie Murphy, and also joined the superhero world after being cast as the female lead in “The Toxic Avenger”. As you can see, Taylor is a very talented triple threat, who can sing, dance, and act. She recently married a fashion designer and continues to build her career. She is also using her talents to do voice work in the film “Astra”. In the upcoming year, look forward to some more work from the talented actress, singer, and dancer in the films “Brothers” and “The Trainer”.
